Letting Go and Layering Up
By Rev. Brian Hardesty-Crouch
Where I live, the trees are letting go of their leaves. The brilliant maroons and oranges flutter to the ground and turn to crumbly brown. It’s a time to let go.
I wonder, are you being invited by God to ‘let go’ in some way?
Simultaneously, the nights (and days!) are getting cooler where I live. It’s time for another warm blanket on the bed, a log on the fire, and a jacket when outside. As I layer on my long-sleeved shirt, I wonder about putting on more compassion and love.
I wonder, what situation in my life is ready for another layer of God’s holy compassion and love?
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. – Colossians 3:12-14 NRSV
Prayer: O Gracious God, I want to open myself to your compassion and love today. And having received your grace, help me reflect your compassion and love to others. In the name of Christ, I pray. Amen.
