Reflective Moments from Hearts on Fire
Our everyday lives are filled with sacred events. I try to find the sacred when I am out walking, when I am in a store, or when I am in a conversation. On Sundays in a worship service, it seems easier to see the sacred, but the sacred is all around us if we pay attention.
Recently, with the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the ceremonies and services that followed, it was easy to feel the sacredness of the moment. I had great admiration for her. She was a woman who had great influence in her own country and in the world. At a time when men were in charge, she created her role with grace and strength. Her faith played a large part in who she was. At the memorial service the strength of the queen’s faith was on display.
I was amazed to see how many people lined up to pass by her casket as she laid in state. They waited for 10 hours or more to say goodbye. I find my patience being tested when I have to wait for an hour. It was evident of how much respect the people had for her.
She had been their queen for 70 years. There are few things in life that last 70 years. Some of the people reading this are not 70 years old. Queen Elizabeth gave stability to the people of the United Kingdom, and the world.
As I watched I reflected on what had offered stability in my life. I realized that it is my faith in Jesus Christ that has been my foundation and stability. It is my faith that has given me the strength to overcome the challenges I have faced. It is my faith that opens my eyes and heart to see what is sacred throughout my day. I hope my actions give a clear message of the faith I have.
As you go through the next days, I invite you to reflect on what gives your life stability? Reflect on where you see the sacredness in your life? Reflect on what you are doing to demonstrate your faith?
I know for certain that there will be challenges in the future and I am thankful that God is forever present. I am thankful that Jesus Christ is my foundation and stability. I can find the grace and strength I need through my faith.
