To Everything There is a Season: Exploring Who and Where We Are with Jerry Webber
As Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us – Pete Seeger and The Byrds concur, by the way – to everything there is a season, always turn, turn, turning in our midst. Our experience of contemporary life is turned by health crises, social issues, and political polarization . . . and those are just a few of the matters that regularly seem to be in upheaval.
In our time together on September 18, Jerry Webber will help us consider where we are and who we are as persons in this season of life. Each of us exists in a larger ecosystem . . . and within that ecosystem we experience the ever-unfolding seasonality of life. Naming where we have been and acknowledging where we presently find ourselves both offer us a way of stepping onward in hope and openness.
Jerry will begin by offering some prompts for consideration using scripture, poetry, and story. Then, those participating will be invited to a period of silent reflection to consider whatever is stirring within. At the end of our time together, we will have an opportunity for sharing our explorations and discoveries with the group.
The zoom will last an hour and a half beginning at:
- 1 pm Eastern
- 12 (noon) Central
- 11 am Mountain
- 10 am Pacific
About Our Presenter, Jerry Webber
I am a husband, father, son, brother, and friend. I find life in living as an explorer. I love to explore landscapes that stretch me . . . the Ozarks of Arkansas, the vastness of British Columbia, the vistas of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the coastline of Nova Scotia, the mountains and river valleys of New Mexico. The terrain of the spiritual landscape stretches me as well, and for over 26 years I have given myself to exploring the soul. To that end, I write, teach, and companion persons on the spiritual journey.
From 2000 – 2018, I led and gave vision to The Center for Christian Spirituality, a contemplative community at Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston. In 2018, my wife and I transitioned to the hills of Northwest Arkansas . . . she to work with special needs children and families . . . and I to speak into the spiritual yearnings of the wider world.
I offer spiritual direction and lead retreats . . . I write spiritual formation and contemplative materials for congregations . . . I teach doctoral students in Christian spirituality and spiritual direction at Houston Graduate School of Theology . . . and I frequently speak on contemplative life and practice at conferences, including as a faculty presenter in both 2-year and 5-day Academy for Spiritual Formation settings.
