COSMOS of GOD
We Are Part of the Whole Cosmos of GOD
We are drawing near to the celebration of God sharing his Son with us on this planet Earth. Let us expand our vision to the cosmology of the Universe, which is from the same God, which is still coming into being. Our new understanding of the immense Universe and its existence for over 13 billion years causes us to pause on this cosmogenisis.
We now have a different understanding than those who visited Jesus on the day of his birth. The shepherds with their sheep, the wise men with their gifts, the donkey on whom Mary rode and the doves who cooed over the new babe, knew only their present, physical land and the stars.
Today, if you look at our understanding of God, who we are, what we should be doing with our lives, what the meaning of Christ is, what is redemption, all have a different sense when considered within our unfinished Universe.
Ilia Delio, O.S.F, PhD, puts emphasis on “the whole’ and ‘love energy’. Evolution, the birth of the Christ, became conscious of itself as a conscious whole. This provides an opening for the conscious of the rising up of God. This leads to trust in the power of God who is the Omega within us. This is a ‘cosmic journey of wholeness’ when we take the world with us. This journey does not include ‘dualisms’. This journey pulls us together as an Oneness in Love, united in mind and heart.
Teilhard de Chardin, a French Jesuit priest, scientist, and paleontologist, helped us to see that the cosmos is still unfinished, is still coming into being, open to more being. Teilhard has an intense love of the world so that we could love the world and God at the same time. Teilhard’s work helps us to come to love the whole world/Universe as created by God which Jesus helps us to understand.
From Teilhard’s 1936 essay ‘The Evolution of Chastity’:
Some day after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire”
How do we today make contact with the unperishable world around us to sustain its forward growth? How do we interweave our mind, consciousness, and subjectivity into the fabric of the Universe, so that modern materialism does not shut us out of the cosmos?
This is the rise of the ‘cosmic person’ whom our God sent to us when born of Mary.
