Wintering is not always easy. Shorter days, overcast sky, snow, and cold temperatures can make us feel … prickly.
I am reminded of the burdock that grazes the paths that I walk.
The heads of the burdock are certainly known as they easily catch onto the fur of my dog and my clothes during walks. Yet, as prickly as it is there are benefits to burdock.
Their flowers provide nectar for bees and food for a variety of species. The roots provide healing and medicinal qualities which can be found in the vitamin section of local stores.
The burdock reminds me how the paths we traverse affect one another.
Where we step and the imprints we leave have the ability to stick, feel prickly, and linger.
A reminder that each step we take upon the earth of God’s creation and design impacts someone or something….something everlasting.
Made in God’s image sometimes we are prickly, sometimes crossing, sometimes we collide, and sometimes we meet and walk together…with creation, with others, and with our Creator.
An invitation to ponder:
- What sticks, feels prickly, and lingers for you during this wintering time?
- What brings nutrition, life, sustenance, and nectar?
- How has nature, creation, and the Creator left an imprint upon you during this season of gestation and wintering?
