Every morning I light a candle, it doesn’t matter where I am. I keep a candle in my pocket when I take a morning walk. I keep a candle in my bike pouch. I travel with a candle, a battery one if necessary. I put the candle on a windowsill or next to a flower or by the water. I might place the candle in early morning light.
Every morning I light a candle. It is a reminder to me of God’s presence. It centers me and helps to focus my attention. For years it has been my practice, picking a candle, finding a place, sitting in prayer. It grounds me in the Spirit and I feel empty without it.
What is your practice?
Is there something that centers or grounds you day in and day out?
Do you have something special, something particular that calls you to prayer – a place, an image, a song, a particular Bible or book – something that helps you find God?
Share it with us.
